Impactful web design to inform and engage for Shell.
Fourleaf was tasked with redesigning the current Shell Offshore Carbon Storage online content to create a more engaging and informative user experience.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and upscaling reliable offshore solutions is one potential solution to the urgent challenge of cutting carbon emissions to limit global temperature rise and help society achieve net-zero.
In order to reach their goal of becoming a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050, Shell know that they need to reduce emissions from their operations as well as capturing and storing any remaining emissions.

Bringing the process to life
Fourleaf have been involved in a multitude of similar projects for Shell to improve and enhance website user experience with engaging and innovative content. Leveraging our prior technical knowledge, combined with our subject expertise we needed to take updated content for the Shell Offshore Carbon Storage web space and create new page layouts, design and content visualisations.
The solution
Knowledge and expertise
Leveraging an existing understanding
Website page layouts were created with content hierarchy in mind and the choice of best suited web components was based on both the legibility and flow of content, as well as using our existing knowledge and experience of the Shell web architecture.
An animation was chosen to explain the carbon capture and storage process where previously a static flow diagram had been used. The new animation brought the process to life in a simple and understandable way following the process from capture to transport to offshore storage. The camera cycles through the various stages and highlights each step in detail. Brief explanations transition in each scene to provide further context.
With both the web page design and animation production, we had to adhere to Shell’s newly launched brand expression making the best use of a developed web development environment. and utilising sonic branding and graphic language.
Our work with Shell Offshore Carbon Storage NL aligned with Shell’s ability to increase the capacity in the Dutch sector of the North Sea.
